Some of the complications can include :-
- Abdominal Pain
- Embarrassment
- Reluctance to eat because of the above
Typically wind is caused by either :-
- food not being digested sufficient before reaching the intestines.
- Chew food thoroughly.
- Reduce the size of meals (but have more frequent meals)
- Identify which foods cause the wind (use a food diary and try and relate symptoms to food types).
- Commons foods include, Milk (try Soya,Oatly, Rice Milk)
- bacteria in the gut. Often post surgery, the PH level of the gut changes. I'm not sure what can be done about this. However, the consequence is that the 'bad' bacteria which also produce gas can increase in population, which the 'good' bacteria can decrease. This would normally rectify itself, but often we have to take drugs which effect the PH of our digestive system. I am currently trying a series of supplements to reduce the 'bad' bacteria and increase the 'good' bacteria.
- Peppermint oil in warm water. Just 1 drop in a mug of warm water first thing in the morning can help settle the stomach.
- Reducing stress, often stress can cause additional acid secretion. Try yoga, breathing techniques or exercise.
- Golden Linseed (must be this type of Linseed). I prefer to soak the seeds in water for 20 mins then drink with lots of water. Other people find sprinkling on their breakfast works for them. Linseed is supposed to help line the digestive walls and can also help balance the PH level.
